Theme: The Flight into Egypt — Trusting in the Dark Night
Introduction: This window depicts the Holy Family fleeing to Egypt to escape King Herod's persecution, guided by an angel of the Lord through the uncertainty of the night.
Scripture: "The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, 'Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you.' Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt." (Matthew 2:13-14)
Artistic Appreciation
Angelic Protection On the left side of the scene, an angel steadfastly guides the path ahead. This symbolizes that God never abandons those in hardship; He always sends His messengers to illuminate the darkness.
The Fortitude of Saint Joseph Saint Joseph leads the way, holding the donkey’s reins, demonstrating his fortitude and sense of responsibility as the Guardian of the Holy Family.
The Tenderness of Mary and the Christ Child The Blessed Mother sits serenely on the donkey, cradling the Infant Jesus. Although the scene is filled with the hardships of travel, it radiates a sense of tranquility and peace born of faith.
The Moon, Stars, and Path The subtle moon and the wilderness in the background emphasize the urgency and arduous nature of this journey.
Spiritual Reflection: "St. Thérèse taught us: 'It is confidence and nothing but confidence that must lead us to Love.' The Holy Family had to leave their homeland without warning, yet they did not complain; they acted immediately.
In our own lives, we sometimes encounter sudden trials or moments where we must leave our 'comfort zones.' Can we, like the Holy Family, trust that God's guiding angel is leading the way even when we cannot see the destination? May this window strengthen us to move forward courageously through the dark nights of our lives."
