Theme:Jesus Walking on the Sea: Peace Amidst the Raging Waves
Introduction: As fierce winds howled and the disciples struggled in the middle of the lake, Jesus came toward them walking on the waves. This artwork captures a sense of supernatural tranquility and power: amidst the waves where humans feel despair, the Lord Jesus demonstrates His sovereignty over all creation. This is not just a miracle, but a gentle call to all who struggle in fear: "It is I; do not be afraid!"
Scripture: "About the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea... When they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out. But at once Jesus spoke to them, 'Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid!'" (Matthew 14:25-27)
Artistic Appreciation
Master of the Waves: At the center is Jesus Christ, appearing serene as He steps lightly upon the undulating waves. His figure contrasts with the layers of spray below, emphasizing that divinity can calm any worldly turmoil.
Halo and Divinity: The halo around Jesus’ head and His calm expression show that even in chaotic surroundings, He possesses heavenly peace.
Sense of Fluidity: The etching craft delicately portrays the flow of water and the movement of His robes, allowing the viewer to feel the gusts of wind on the lake, yet remain soothed by the central figure’s steadiness.
Spiritual Reflection: St. Thérèse once said, "My life is but an instant, a passing hour." She knew that the storms of life are merely part of the journey toward eternity. Our lives are sometimes like that boat on the lake at night; sudden illness, pressure, or failure can feel like giant waves that fill us with dread. We are often like Peter, becoming afraid when we see the strength of the wind. May this window remind us that Jesus is always there, walking toward us atop the storm. If we fix our eyes on Him, rather than the waves, we can walk forward steadily in a peace that surpasses all understanding.
